Letters from March 2009

Buy FANTASIES on iTunes

Starting today - March 31st you can buy FANTASIES on iTunes worldwide up to several weeks before it will be available in any other store around the world. Check out your local iTunes store to find the album, complete with digital booklet!

Of course, you can also purchase the album directly from the band's website in one of several deluxe packages (including digital download) complete with exclusive content not available anywhere else...

We're also getting ready to hit the road and show you all some love!

As a gesture of appreciation to our home-town Toronto fans, we have a few treats in store... We're going to be holding a secret show this week somewhere in Toronto. Keep your eyes peeled for clues on how to get in! On April 14th we will be performing an intimate all-ages show at The Mod Club with Holy Fuck. The only way to get tickets will be through a listen to win contest on Toronto's 102.1 The Edge or by going to Ticketmaster starting on Friday April 3rd at 10am EST. Since it's a really small room and there are very few tickets available, we made it so the only way to buy them will be to enter the password "fantasies" which is something we're only telling our fans and quietly announcing on our website. Still, make sure to grab your tickets quick if you want to come because we expect them to go fast!

Check out the Tour page to see where you'll find us over the next few months - stay tuned for more Canadian dates later this week!

The future is here

The future is here and Metric delivers! We put a lot of love into making this album and now we're gonna personally guide FANTASIES to your virtual & physical door!

In addition to the straight up pre-order option we have also put together an extra-fantastic limited edition package for anyone who, like us, must have music at their fingertips at all times - in every medium in the known universe! This includes special things we made that you can't get anywhere except from us directly. When the band was talking about what to include a lot of ideas came up -- giant Metric robot dolls, anyone? In the end, we agreed that we wanted to include work that would give our loyal fans an inside perspective.

Hence the decision to include Jimmy's best-kept-secret cover of "Nobody Home" by Pink Floyd. Some of us who have done a lot of hanging out at the studio late night have had the rare treat of hearing him play "Nobody Home" on the piano when the mood strikes him, usually around 5 am. He played it for the first time in public at our surprise acoustic show at the World Cafe in Philadelphia a couple weeks ago, the crowd loved it so he finally recorded it.

Now you can have it for yourself when you pre-order FANTASIES from us!

We also decided to include a couple fancy photographic posters in the deal. For the first poster we pulled together our personal shots from the studio & from the road in classic black & white. Here's a sample of the vibe:

For the second one I chose my favorite works from this graffiti art collective called "Hollywood in Cambodia" that I discovered on my writing trip to Buenos Aires. As members of Metric we're all travelers so we decided to make the Hollywood in Cambodia poster a selection of postcards you can cut out and send through the old world mail if you want. It looks great as a poster but its nice to have the option of destroying it and chopping it up into pieces!

More on "Hollywood in Cambodia": In addition to their various works on abandoned buildings around Buenos Aires, they had one designated wall in a Palermo cafe where artists from the collective created an amazing mural by adding to, instead of painting over, each others' original images. As the custom in graffiti art is more often to replace another man's image with your own than to work around it, this wall is an impressive accomplishment and a testament to the fact that collaboration often yields more interesting results than strictly ego driven pursuits.

So there you have it! Our vision revealed!

It's hilarious how the world works. Now that we can finally get major retailers to stock our records, they're all going out of business! And the fact is we would love it if you chose to get your Metric fix here first, where we can make things exactly how we want them without compromise and throw in extra music and high quality artwork for the hell of it. In a fucked up way, this is perfect. Wherever you decide to get your copy of FANTASIES... we wanna say thanks for sticking with us!

This year is gonna rock like no other.
