Writing to you from Birmingham, Alabama...we’re
in a parking lot trying to remember that this
is glamorous. The shows so far have been astounding,
every room packed with people who have found us
somehow and memorized the words to “Glass Ceiling”
before coming to the show, everybody all dressed
up real good and ready to be rocked... What a
sight! Playing in Chapel Hill was especially rewarding,
it was our first time there and we ran into lots
of old friends from NYC and L.A...Everyone seems
to be discovering these smaller cities and fleeing
to them. People, please keep traveling around,
it makes our touring easier! So yeah no dark road
tales yet, but we’re sure they’re coming for us,
and when they do you’ll be the first to know.
Thanks to everyone who has showed up so far in
Boston, Providence, New York, Philly, Washington,
Carborro & Atlanta....and thanks for buying “Live
it Out”, you’re making all this happen for us.
More news later, now sleep oxxxooometric

everybody let's have a real good time together
starting....right....now! we played at La Route
de Rock after Sonic Youth and had our little minds
blown. It was as though we had been orphans all
these years and were finally reunited with our
parents knowing they are also the parents of so
many other freaks in bands. ok this is not the
SY fan site...but we do want to say thanks to
aaron for doing sound for us at the festival and
to tim for hooking it up and while we're at it
thanks to olivier for that party in paris on the
last night. we have some great pictures and swoopy
video from the concert which we'll post sometime
if we can get around to it. lots of general excitement
these days as we get closer to the release of
"Live it Out" on the 27th... oxoxox
p.s. the show at the phoenix on sept 29 is SOLD
OUT, so we added another one.

Official North American Fall Tour Dates Announced!
Check the live page for
details.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
08/05
Ok hi we’re not sleeping we’ve finished the new
record...it’s epic! The album is called “Live
it Out” and it’s being released by Last Gang in
Canada on September 27 and in the USA on October
4. You can hear a bit of our first single “Monster
Hospital” and read an exclusive interview with
jimmy & emily at MTV.com.
Or you can just go for a walk or read a book or
call your mom and tell her you love her and wait
until the record comes out to hear it the way
you want to. Here’s what we wrote for our official
press release:
“Our new record “Live it Out” is an expression
of each of us as individual musicians. It’s a
record of questions and struggles as opposed to
the answers and observations of “Old World Underground...”
We recorded it ourselves in Canada without having
to explain or justify our decisions to anyone.
A lot of people have supported us throughout our
various misadventures, coming to see us play in
all sorts of strange venues and searching to find
stores that actually carry our stuff. Without
them we would have been unable to continue making
music at all. We wanted to make an album for those
people, and we did. The result is 10 spontaneous
and heartfelt songs that fucking rock.”
Alright then. All our Fall Tour dates have now
been confirmed, check out the Live
page soon for a concert in your town. We’re bringing
The
Lovely Feathers from Montreal on the entire
tour! Other openers include The
Organ, Jason
Collett, Death
of a Party and Arts&Crafts most recent signing
The
Most Serene Republic.
see you soon xooxxo
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
07/05
Ok hi we're not sleeping we're in our last days
mixing the new record with John O'Mahony...and
it's a Monster! The record was produced by our
own Jimmy Shaw and was recorded over the past
7 months at the band's studio in Toronto and at
Studio Plateau in Montreal with Drew-happy dragon-Malamud.
If you've seen us play live anywhere this past
year you'll recognize a bunch of songs like "Patriarch
on a Vespa", "Handshakes", "Monster Hospital"
(I fought the war) & "Empty"...The artwork is
being done by Josh Hassin, the same guy who did
old world. It looks amazing! The album is called
'Live it Out' and it's being released by Last
Gang in the USA & Canada on September 27. We took
a break from working on it this past weekend to
play Hillside Festival with Stars, Broken Social
Scene and Arcade Fire, went swimming in the lake
with nude mothers until the O.P.P came by in their
boat and kicked everybody out of the water. Other
than that the festival was the usual transcendent
summer thrill, with hardly anybody wearing black
except us. Let's all buy houses in Guelph and
wait out the end of the world in peace.
Also...'The List' video is done and you
can watch it here! Thanks to everyone who
sent in their concert photographs from all over
the world, there were some amazing shots in there,
lots of hair blowing in the wind, underwear and
honest sweating. We ended up using photos by the
following people: IVAN OYARZUN, CHELSEA, DARIO
CASTRO, JOSEPH YARMUSH & JESSICA TOLLEFSEN. The
live footage in the video was shot mostly at our
show on the Toronto Island this summer and with
Modest Mouse in Montreal. The video was directed
by Chris Grismer. Hope you like it!
there's all this other news but we can't say anything
yet, hold on xoxooxo

Writing to you from a pub in Manchester, we’re
four shows into our UK tour with DFA1979 and so
far it’s been great! It feels good playing little
sweaty clubs full of strangers again, we’re like
Elvis remembering himself before the capes and
the jumpsuits. Just found out “dead disco” got
added to the XFM playlist, guess old world won’t
quit. And we’ve got good news for people who love...
art rock. This summer we’re playing with MODEST
MOUSE in Montreal and on Toronto Island... can’t
remember the dates, check the tour page for more
info. More festival shows in France TBA... xoxoxoxo

is finally being released in the UK, May 30 it’ll
be in stores! We’re told our show with DFA79 at
Scala on May 25 is SOLD OUT, so we added our own
show at The Metro on May 28. Sorry it’s on Oxford
street. xoxoxox

hello from Paris! forgive us for being slow with
the news, here’s the latest...
We are very pleased to announce that "Old World
Underground, Where Are You Now?’" is being released
across Europe by NAÏVE
we love them! The album will come out April 12
in France, May 16 in Spain, April 19 in Belgium
& Switzerland. Take a look at the tour page for
details on all our upcoming shows in France and
elsewhere. We’re playing a couple shows in Vancouver
on April 7 & 8 before heading to France for “Les
Femmes S'en Mêlent” festival. Then in May
we’re going to Tokyo to play CANADA
WET! with friends Broken Social Scene, The
Dears, Stars and Death From Above 1979. From there
we continue on to tour the UK with Death From
Above 1979, our Last Gang label mates & hot crushes.
(UK album release plans are in the works). Then
on June 2 we’ve been invited by “Clean” director
Olivier Assayas to play his event at the Art
Rock festival in St-Brieuc, France. There
are more festival dates being considered, we’ll
let you know when they are confirmed. When we
get back to Canada mid-June we’ll be heading into
the studio to finish up the new record and making
the video for “The List”. Thanks to everyone who
sent in photos for the video, keep them coming!
Here’s a little live TV appearance to entertain
you until we can do it in person... “Combat
Baby” &
“Dead Disco” thanks for sticking around. much
love xoxoxometric

02/05
Canadian winter! That 401 run really took it out
of us ... the fourth Mod Club show ended up selling
out too, an excellent end to a very long weekend.
It’s hard not to keep saying thanks, the audience
every night was so different from the last and
the rest of the shows were equally fantastic-
aside from Emily being stricken with what is locally
referred to as the Hundred Day Cough. The Ottawa
cold snap seemed to trigger a van-wide epidemic
of sweaty chills and chronic hacking. Luckily
the Kingston crowd was an enthusiastic (drunk)
choir that pretty much drowned out her croaks.
But the London show had to be rescheduled due
to aimless vomiting. We’re back to working on
new recordings now, and making plans for a video
for “The List”. We’re hoping to use a bunch of
photographs in the video taken by our talented
fans, so if you have any and you’d like to see
them show up in our video, please email them to
us at hello@ilovemetric.com">hello@ilovemetric.com.
If you have prints, email us and we’ll give you
an address where you can send them.
There’s a review of Metric’s November show at
the El Rey in this month’s issue of Under the
Radar, as well as a couple pictures of Emily voting
... wow, so 2004.
On Thursday February 10 Emily has been invited
to participate in the fourth annual “Closer To
The Heart” benefit, a fund-raising project for
the Regent Park School of Music. Regent Park is
a low-income area of government housing for under-privileged
families, mostly new Canadians: doubtless some
desperate Americans avoiding their country are
among them! With the recent Ontario budget cuts,
schools in Regent Park lost their music programs,
and that sucks. The show features various celebrities
and is being held at Club 279, 279 Yonge St. Doors
8:00, show 8:30, two sets. Tickets are $25 at
the door/ $20 in advance at the Hard Rock Cafe
retail store [279 Yonge St. at Dundas], at the
Regent Park School of Music [534 Queen St. E]
& through the event organizer KJP@ca.inter">KJP@ca.inter.net
[416-465-3993]. Come if you can.
Soon we’ll have firm release dates for “Old World...”
throughout Europe, right now we keep hearing April
for Italy, Spain, France, Belgium and Switzerland.
Sounds good, believe it
when we see it. What else? Just living, laying
low with the hibernating bears, trying like hell
to be happy and doing moderately well at it, hope
you are ok too xoxoox
