"Cosmopolis" Film Score & Fantasies Flashbacks Announcement

Hi everyone,

We're writing with both good news and bad. The good news is that we've been working away on a new album at Giant Studios in Toronto and at Electric Lady in New York City. We're on the last stretch! Looking at a release date in early 2012 ... Exciting!

Also, we just confirmed we will be working with our favorite film composer Howard Shore on the score for a new David Cronenberg movie starring Robert Pattinson, minus the vampires! It's an adaptation of the book "Cosmopolis" by Don DeLillo, and the themes are right in tune with the overall mood of the world at the moment. In "Cosmopolis", the rat has become a unit of currency!

Which brings us to the bad news. As many of you may be aware, one of the unfortunate casualties of the recent London riots in August was the destruction by fire of the Sony/PIAS Distribution warehouse, causing the loss of what we've been told was millions of albums worth of inventory, a significant portion of which very sadly belonged to many small independent labels distributed by PIAS, including our own label, Metric Music International.

We're lucky that we weren't impacted nearly as badly as many other indie labels and bands who took a terrible hit. There was however one regrettable consequence for us, which is that the sudden, unforeseeable spike in demand for manufacturing services of both CDs and vinyl caused an immediate backlog on orders throughout Europe, resulting in considerable production delays for many artists' titles.

Included among those affected titles is our Fantasies Flashbacks remix album, which was originally slated to hit stores (or be delivered by) today, October 11th. The production plant in Europe where we arranged to manufacture the limited edition vinyl box set was among those impacted by the ripple effect of the fire and we're therefore also experiencing production delays outside of our control. Despite our best efforts, this means we won't be able to release the album today, as originally intended.

Your order will absolutely not be cancelled, it's just going to take us longer than expected to get the music to you. All orders placed at the ilovemetric.com online store will be fulfilled as soon as our management office receives the goods, which we are told could take anywhere from another 3-6 weeks. Accordingly, the physical retail release date has been moved to November 21, 2011.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, thanks for understanding! The moment we have more concrete information, you'll be the first to know.

P.S.  Interesting. http://occupywallst.org/

SONiC BOOM Venue Change

Hey everyone,

Another quick festival update for Metric fans planning on attending SONiC BOOM on September 4th.

The main stage, where Metric will appear, for the third annual SONiC BOOM, Edmonton’s Modern Rock Festival, has been relocated to the Northlands EXPO Centre on Sunday, September 4th. The move comes after careful consideration of fan feedback and the effects of Edmonton’s volatile summer weather patterns took its toll on several major outdoor events, including SONiC BOOM itself.

All tickets previously purchased will be honoured at the doors.

More information on the venue change can be found here.

Squamish Update

Hey everyone,

A quick update for all of Metric fans planning on attending LIVE at Squamish 2011 later this month.

Due to an unforeseen scheduling issues, the festival organizers have made some minor adjustments to the festival line up. Metric were originally scheduled to headline the Mainstage on Saturday, August 20th but we will now perform a full headline set on the Mainstage on Sunday, August 21st with Weezer closing the night. Emily and James will also perform an additional, rare and intimate acoustic set at the Garibaldi Stage on Saturday, August 20th.

I’m really looking forward to playing two sets at LIVE at Squamish with two very different sounds – a stripped-down, acoustic session on Saturday followed by a raw, rock-out on Sunday. Being part of such a great line-up and in one of Canada’s most beautiful settings is a perfect combination for an awesome summer music festival,” said Emily.

More information on the scheduling change can be found here

LIVE at Squamish takes place Saturday August 20th and Sunday August 21st, 2011 at Hendrickson Fields & Logger Sports Ground in Squamish.

Fantasies Flashbacks Pre-Order

People of tomorrow, it is today!

We're writing to let you know that we've just officially launched a web store pre-order for the limited-edition Fantasies Flashbacks package, our first remix album!

The idea is connecting the past with the future. There's vinyl for DJs who only spin vinyl, and for those of us who require a more portable option for our occasional DJ duties (I moonlight as DJ Emotional) there's the PlayButton, a new kind of MP3 player that you can pin on your jacket! Love this.

The name Fantasies Flashbacks was taken from a retrospective project we launched in December 2010 at ilovemetric.com where we invited our fans to send us stories and photos capturing their most memorable Fantasies-era experiences from the past few years.  We received thousands of amazing submissions, including Alexandra Tyson's photo from our concert at the 930 Club in Washington, DC, which has become the centerpiece of the artwork for the remix album.

Around the same time, we also started working with the Indaba Music Community on a fan-focused Fantasies remix contest. We made the original stems of the songs from our album available to the world and were overwhelmed by the number and quality of remixes we received. Every day we chose our favourite versions of each song and the result is this collection of Fantasies remixes, which we think are the very best and deserve to be heard.

Here's what the Fantasies Flashbacks deluxe release includes:

• The 10 original songs from the album Fantasies, each on 7 inch vinyl with our favorite remix for each track

• A PlayButton MP3 player you can wear, loaded up with the 10 winning remixes

• A digital download code redeemable for all of the above plus 11 more selected remixes

• A limited-edition poster, handmade artwork and a custom box to house it all

The official order cut off date is Friday, August 12th 2011. Only a very small number of these limited-edition, deluxe physical packages will be manufactured. They will be sold from our website on a first come, first served basis, while supplies last. Once we hit our preset maximum order quantity (even if it is before August 12th), no further orders can be accepted, sorry! After August 12th, no additional copies of this package will ever be made. Keeping it tight!

With that in mind, if you know you want to pick one up, make your purchase quickly as these are likely to sell fast. Anyone who pre-orders Fantasies Flashbacks from our store will also get an immediate gratification download containing the band's favourite remixes of Help I'm Alive, Gimme Sympathy and Gold Guns Girls. And since we always throw in some extras when you order directly from us, this time it will be an extra 3 previously unreleased remixes not available at retail or anywhere else (bringing the total to 34 songs)!

We're also stocking a few of the Fantasies Flashbacks deluxe packages in our favorite indie record stores so if you want to check at your local, please do! They will be harder to find than usual though as we are making such a small quantity.

Regardless of how or where you buy your copy of Fantasies Flashbacks, you should know that all of Metric's proceeds from the sale of the limited edition package will be donated to CAMH, the Center for Addiction and Mental Health. We had the privilege of playing an acoustic set at one of their fundraisers earlier this year and have developed a great respect and appreciation for the important work that they do. Any purchase you make here will be going to support their continued good work!

Pre-orders from ilovemetric.com will ship on September 30th, 2011. The album will be available in select stores on October 11th, 2011.

Now, back to the studio!

Fantasies Flashbacks

At the end of December 2010, we launched Fantasies Flashbacks, a retrospective project in which we asked you to send in your Fantasies-era memories. You contributed hundreds of photos, stories, and video clips - thank you! We were a little overwhelmed! Based on what you sent us, we created a special photo viewer to present some of the images that came to us from all over the world. We also posted about 50 of the personal anecdotes you sent in, all on the front page. Alas, as amazing as all that was, it’s time to move on. But you can still view the photo viewer here. Thanks again for your amazing contributions!

Metric at Sonic Boom 2011

Hey everyone,

Sorry for the silence of late, we've been super busy writing and recording new music which we're hoping you'll be able to hear in the not-too-distant future!

In the meantime, we're really happy to announce that we will be performing at this year's Sonic Boom Festival in Edmonton, AB on Sunday, September 4th, alongside other great bands like Jane's Addiction and Hollerado.

For ticket information, follow this link.

And Emily recently chatted about Sonic Boom and what's happening with Metric with Sonic 102.9's Layne Michell. You can hear how their conversation went over at the Sonic 102.9 website.

Hope to see you in Edmonton!

CAMH’s UnMasked After-Party

Metric will perform a special acoustic set at the UnMasked After Party on May 11th in Toronto.

UnMasked is a fundraiser for the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). We think everyone knows someone who has been affected by addiction and mental health issues and, having spent a lot of time in the Queen West area of Toronto where CAMH is located, we know how important their role is in the community.

We hope you can join us at the party to help end the stigma associated with these issues.
